It was a star-studded night on Broadway as celebrities filled the theater for the opening night of Othello, starring Denzel Washington. Talk show host and comedian Sherri Shepherd was one of the many stars in the crowd. But while the play was a hit, Sherri experienced some unexpected drama offstage.
During her talk show, Sherri told her audience that she got into an uncomfortable situation with another celebrity. She didn’t name the person, but explained that the actress grabbed her arm, turned her around, and said, “You’ve been shading me a lot.” Sherri replied, “No I haven’t,” but the woman insisted, “Yes you have,” and walked off.
Sherri said the encounter really upset her. “I went to the bathroom during intermission and stayed in there for 15 minutes, hoping she would come in so we could talk,” she explained. “You don’t get to grab me like we’re in a daggum cartoon and then just walk away.”
Though she felt hurt, Sherri believes it was likely a misunderstanding and said she’d love for the mystery celebrity to come on her show and clear the air. According to Page Six, the “unnamed celebrity” is rumored to be actress Nia Long, who posted a selfie on Instagram the next day with the caption, “About Last Night.”
