Bishop T.D. Jakes, the well-known pastor of The Potter’s House in Dallas, recently opened up about a serious health scare he experienced last year. In a heartfelt interview on TODAY, Jakes revealed that he suffered a massive heart attack, something he didn’t even realize was happening at the time.
He explained that there were no clear warning signs. He didn’t feel any sharp chest pains, numbness, or the typical symptoms many people expect with a heart attack. Instead, he said he simply drifted off to sleep. When he woke up, he was in the hospital with doctors telling him that he had just survived a major medical emergency. One doctor even said to him that he might not have made it if he had arrived just five minutes later.
Jakes shared that the right side of his heart had completely stopped receiving blood, which is extremely dangerous. His story serves as a powerful reminder that heart attacks don’t always show obvious signs, and time is critical when it comes to getting medical help.
Now recovering and back to preaching, Bishop Jakes is using his experience to raise awareness about heart health and to encourage others to listen to their bodies, even when the symptoms aren’t what you’d expect.
